I didn't go
I didn’t go to the party for this moment.
I stayed home to sit by the window--
cat on my lap,
writing by candlelight--
so that when the sky opened up,
I would be there with the window open,
to let the warm petrichor waft through.
I skipped to be with my soul:
a nature-loving, restless little girl
who adores the little things,
like a tiny flame,
a cat purr,
an earthy breeze,
and fireflies twinkling among raindrops,
while the sky grumbles in complaint.
This is why I prioritized my company. For this moment right here.
